FAQs

  • The most important document that all club members must have is a USA Wrestling Membership card. Wrestlers are encouraged to purchase wrestling shoes (no bare feet or street shoes allowed on the mats due to hygiene). We have a small collection of shoes for wrestlers to borrow if need be. Headgear is not mandatory but is recommended to prevent cauliflower ear. A uniform and wrestling shoes are required for all tournaments. Shorts (without pockets), t-shirts, and wrestling shoes are traditionally worn for practices. A water bottle is encouraged for every practice - no sharing (please put your child's name on their water bottle). A water fountain will also be available in the wrestling room. A heavy sweatshirt or jacket is helpful after practice to keep wrestler warm after a workout.

  • There are many benefits of wrestling, your child will learn: self-confidence, diligence, work ethic, sportsmanship, self-discipline, perseverance and how to have a healthy level of competition. Physically your child can gain: improved balance, increased speed, increased coordination, increased endurance, improved agility, strength in all muscle groups. Wrestling has proven to help athletes excel in many different sports including Football, Baseball, Soccer and many more.

  • Wrestling is a contact sport. Jammed fingers, bloody noses, and sore muscles are common in this sport. Major injuries in all contact sports can occur, but are not common. We make an effort to monitor practices carefully so illegal holds or potentially dangerous predicaments are stopped at once. The USA Wrestling Membership card also provide secondary injuring insurance if your child is injured at practice or at tournaments.

  • The primary wrestling season (winter Folkstyle/Collegiate) starts in November and ends late January / early February. The Middle School season will continue through mid-March.
We offer off-season, pre-season, Freestyle and Greco Roman practices as well.

  • Our youth wrestlers do not cut weight. Our goal is to create a fun atmosphere that promotes a competitive drive, regardless of the athlete's weight. In addition, there are much stricter guidelines now for high school and collegiate wrestlers.

  • Common-sense hygiene is the most effective tool in preventing most problems. Our mats are disinfected and cleaned before every practice session starts. To further protect your child from any kind of skin infection, we recommend showering immediately after practice with warm water and soap, scrubbing well.

We are proud to partner with Defense Soap to provide their products at a discounted rate, helping families ensure the health and safety of our wrestlers.

If your child has an open wound, it is best to keep them off the mats until healed. On rare occasions, a rash may occur. If at any time your child breaks out with a skin condition or rash, report it to the coach and consult your doctor.

Consistent hygiene — paired with Defense Soap and our strict mat-cleaning protocols — will help keep our athletes safe, healthy, and on the mat.

  • Metro league tournaments occur most weekends and are offered to athletes at no additional cost. In addition, some more competitive USA Wrestling and other independent tournaments are available most weekends for an additional cost. While tournament participation can provide great experience for the athletes, all tournaments are optional.

  • We know wrestling is a unique sport, and sometimes you just need to see it in action to know if it’s the right fit. That’s why we invite your athlete to come try their first week with no pressure and no commitment — if it’s not a great match, that’s totally okay!

👉 Note: All athletes need a USA Wrestling membership card to step on the mat. This fee is paid directly to USA Wrestling and cannot be refunded by the club.

  • USA Wrestling is the organization that regulates all wrestling in the United States, requires that all wrestlers purchase a USA Wrestling Card Membership before participating in any USA Wrestling sanctioned events, including club practices, camps, clinics, etc. This membership is for the protection of everyone involved and provides secondary insurance to those with the membership. The purchase price covers membership for one year; from September 1 through August 31.
